Delete your account
This page explains how you can request deletion of your AskAlfred account and the personal data we hold about you. AskAlfred is operated by AskAlfred BV/SRL, a company incorporated under Belgian law (registered office: Generaal Lemanlaan 67, 8310 Bruges, Belgium; KBO/BCE number 1004.594.257).
1. How to request deletion
You can request deletion of your AskAlfred account in either of the following ways:
Option A — From inside the app
- Open the AskAlfred app and sign in.
- Go to the Profile tab and tap the Settings icon (top-right).
- Scroll to the Account section.
- Tap Delete account and confirm. Your account will be queued for deletion immediately.
Option B — By email
Send an email to info@askalfred.be from the email address linked to your AskAlfred account, with the subject line “Delete my account”. We will process the request within thirty (30) days, in line with Article 17 of the GDPR (right to erasure).
For verification purposes, please include your username (e.g. @yourname) or the email address you used to sign in.
2. What gets deleted
Once the deletion request is processed, the following data is permanently deleted from AskAlfred’s production systems:
- Your account record (email, password hash, OAuth identifiers, display name, username, avatar).
- Your saved places, lists, personal notes, and any photos you uploaded.
- Your follows, likes, comments, and other social interactions.
- Your in-app preferences (notification settings, language, public-profile flag).
- Your push notification tokens.
3. What is retained, and for how long
Some limited data may be retained after deletion of your account, in each case only to the extent strictly necessary and as required or permitted by applicable law:
- Backups: encrypted database backups may still contain your data for up to thirty (30) days after deletion, after which they are automatically rotated and overwritten.
- Server and security logs: technical logs (IP address, device type, request metadata) are retained for up to ninety (90) days for security, fraud prevention, and debugging purposes.
- Aggregated analytics: anonymised, non-identifying aggregate metrics (e.g. number of saves per day across the platform) may be retained indefinitely. These cannot be linked back to you.
- Records required by law: records that we are required to retain under Belgian or EU law (for example, tax, accounting, or compliance records relating to any payments) will be kept for the legally required retention periods (typically up to seven (7) years for accounting records).
- Public content already shared: if you previously published a place, list, or comment publicly and other users saved or referenced it, the underlying user content is removed from your profile, but anonymised references in other users’ collections may persist (with no link to you).
4. Cancelling a deletion request
Once a deletion request has been confirmed, it cannot be undone. If you change your mind before deletion is finalised, contact info@askalfred.be as quickly as possible. After deletion is complete, you will need to create a new account from scratch.
5. Other privacy rights
Account deletion is a permanent action. If you only wish to (i) export a copy of your data, (ii) correct inaccurate data, or (iii) restrict or object to certain processing, you can exercise those rights under the GDPR by contacting info@askalfred.be. See our Privacy Policy for the full list of your rights.
